2016 Home Security Survey Results
A recent survey conducted by Harris Poll, on behalf of a fellow My Alarm Center brand, shows that peace of mind continues to be the main motivation behind purchasing a home security system. An overwhelming majority percentage of Americans, at 93%, say that it’s important that local police and fire authorities are contacted in the event of a home security alert, such a break-in or home fire.
Several other survey results were noteworthy as well. Nearly 2 in 3 Americans do not consider self monitored alarm systems to be as safe as professionally monitored home security systems. Just about four in five Americans indicate that it’s important that their security system is accessible from a computer, tablet, or mobile device when they are away from the home for wireless alarm monitoring. 72% of Americans are interested in integrating their home security system with other home functions, including thermostats and lighting, for automated home convenience.
“Smart home technology is popular, but the survey shows that homeowners want more than a ‘smart thing’ when it comes to protecting their home and family. Homeowners want assurances that help will arrive when their family needs it, and professional monitoring alerts first responders in case of an emergency,” says Amy Kothari, CEO and President of My Alarm Center.
